What VA benefits am I entitled to?

VA benefits
VA benefits include the often overlooked Aid and Attendance.

Most veterans of the military are aware they are eligible for some form of benefits through the VA after leaving military service, however it can be challenging to decipher exactly which benefits you are eligible for, and how to go about securing them.

There is a huge range of benefits you may be eligible for, including free medical care, discounted hotel rooms, free fishing licenses, and much more. There are so many different benefits that it is nearly impossible to list them all, but the guide below will help you determine what you are and are not entitled to.

As a veteran of the military, you may be eligible for:

  • VA Aid and Attendance– Veterans and survivors who are eligible for a VA pension and require the aid and attendance of another person, or are housebound, may be eligible for additional monetary payment. You can use this benefit at Encore at Avalon Park Assisted Living & Memory Care.
  • VA Disability Compensation – If you have a service-related disability and a discharge other than dishonorable, you can qualify for monthly tax-free compensation from $133 to over $3000 per month.
  • VA Medical Benefits – Though final eligibility depends on several factors, your military service means that you get to retain at least some of your medical benefits. From partial assistance to total coverage, VA medical benefits are extremely valuable.
  • VA Home Loans – Those veterans who qualify are eligible for a home loan with as little as $0 down, with great interest rates and financing available up to $453,000.
  • VA Education Benefits – Also known as the GI Bill, members of Active Duty, Selected Reserve and National Guard Armed Forces, and their families are eligible for benefits that help cover the costs of receiving an education or specialized training. Each GI Bill program is administrated differently, depending on the veteran’s eligibility.
  • VA Pensions – There are three different pension programs for veterans and their dependents. A pension is typically payable to those with low income, as determined by federal law. The pension makes up the difference between a veteran’s income and an income level set by Congress, as a function of how many dependents the veteran has.

There are many other benefits available for those who are eligible, including educational and career counseling, a federal hiring preference, special discounts, VA burial benefits, and more. To apply for benefits, head over to www.benefits.va.gov.
