The Songbird Program: Changing the Lives of the Young and Elderly
As a part of our Memory Care program here at Encore, we’ve teamed up with the Central Florida Creative Care Association to bring our wonderful residents a way to unlock memories thought to be long gone while engaging with youth in the area. The Songbird program allows us to bring students and elders affected by disability together to help bridge a generational gap with music.
Our volunteers first receive comprehensive training in brain health education, empathetic activities, and compassionate communication. From there, the young adults are paired with residents living here at Encore. Throughout their school year, the young adults work to create a custom music playlist for their resident to help them reconnect with those around them. These playlists use the incredibly powerful therapeutic effect that music has on those who are afflicted by mental illness.
In addition to aiding our residents, the Songbird program is important to helping young adults thrive as they make a positive difference in the life another. As their hard work helps awaken the minds of their elders, these young people see just how valuable the elder community is.
We use the Songbird program as a cornerstone of our memory care process here at Encore at Avalon Park. If you have a loved one who suffers from dementia or other memory impairment, our skilled memory care department can ensure they receive the best therapy possible.
