As the summer heat rises, it is important to ensure that seniors are kept safe. Stay Hydrated

Other drinks that help keep seniors hydrated include lower calorie, electrolyte-replenishing sports drinks, iced tea, and lemonade.

When going outside, it is better to pick shaded spots where there is no direct sunlight. Wearing a hat and sunglasses to protect sensitive senior skin from harmful UV rays is also a factor to consider. It is also suggested that seniors use sunblock with an SPF of 30 or above.

While facemasks are an important and necessary accessory in today’s world, it is suggested that seniors avoid wearing these while outside for an extended amount of time as they can cause dizziness and shortness of breath.
Keep Your Home Cool
Closing curtains and blinds is a good way to maintain a comfortable temperature throughout the home. Avoid having the inside temperature above 85 degrees. Instead, set your thermostat to 76 degrees or lower so that the interior temperature is cool enough to decrease a senior’s overheated body temperature when they return from outdoors.
Be Aware of Warning Signs
Keeping a close eye out for signs of exhaustion and dehydration is also key to ensure your senior stays safe. Some of these signs include:
