Keep It Simple
Healthy diets are universal, whether a person suffers from Alzheimer’s or not. A meal plan that covers all the bases includes:
- A varied menu. Nobody likes eating the same thing day in and day out, so keep a variety of fruits and vegetables, grains, proteins, and low-fat dairy on rotation for a well-rounded diet.
- Portion control. Help your loved one maintain a healthy weight by controlling their portions and exercising them when possible.
- Moderation. Foods with saturated fats and cholesterol are okay in small amounts, but don’t go overboard on fatty meats and fried foods.
- Monitored sugar intake. Remember, moderation is key so reduce their sugars, if necessary.
- Staying hydrated. You’d be surprised how much of the general population is constantly dehydrated. It takes a toll on internal organs and physical functions – so keep those fluids flowing.
