Uplifting Movies for Seniors to Enjoy

Uplifting Movies for Seniors

In today’s challenging times, it is important to ensure our seniors are happy, healthy, and cared for. While we may not always be able to gather with our senior loved ones as we would like to, there are other ways to enjoy time together. Virtual movie screenings have recently become a popular way share a traditional movie-going experience in an untraditional way. If you’re interested in planning a watch party with a senior, here are some family-friendly and uplifting movies for seniors to enjoy that are sure to bring a smile to your loved ones’ face.

The Bucket List (2007)

One wealthy man (Jack Nicholson) and one blue-collar mechanic (Morgan Freeman) seemingly have nothing in common, except for a terminal diagnosis. The unlikely duo pair up and set out to experience all of the things they’ve always wanted to do in life. After a comical start to complete their bucket lists, the two men learn to open their hearts up to friendship and find healing along the way. The Bucket List is a witty movie with a touching story that shows how it’s never too late to make the most of life.

Grease (1978)

A classic story about good girl Sandy (Olivia Newton-John) falling for bad boy Danny (John Travolta), Grease is about identity, transformation, and growing up all while trying to navigate high school. The sing-along musical-comedy that celebrates poodle skirts, fast cars, and puppy love features a string of recognizable hit songs — like “Greased Lightnin’,” “Hopelessly Devoted to You,” “Hand Jive,” and “You’re the One That I Want” — that are sure to get toes tapping.

Up (2009)

This heart-warming Disney-Pixar animated film tells the story of a grumpy widower (Ed Asner) who is trying to avoid his home from being surrounded by the big city development. With a giant collection of balloons, he floats his home up and away to visit the places that he and his wife had always dreamed of. Along the way, he meets an unlikely friend, a boy scout, who teaches him a few life lessons about friendship and family.

It’s a Wonderful Life (1946)

Years after giving up on his dreams to help his community, an exasperated husband and father (James Stewart) searches for meaning to his life on Christmas Eve. Desperate and at the end of his rope, he is visited by a guardian angel who walks him through his life to show him all of the lives he has touched and how different life would be for his wife, family, and town had he never been born. A holiday staple, Frank Capra’s classic film of redemption and grace reminds audiences how wonderful life is and the lasting impact we have on each other’s lives.
